Is there a digital alternative to leaflet distribution for tradespeople?

We get asked this question a lot. We run a leaflet distribution business in Brighton, so you might expect our answer to be no. But we would rather give you an honest one, because we also built a live lead platform for Sussex tradespeople.

The short answer: there is a digital option that works, but it does a different job from leaflets. The tradespeople getting the most work tend to use both.

Want leads coming in now? Register your trade free at xnet.tools, or read how it works on our digital trade leads page.

What leaflets do well

Leaflet distribution is brilliant at building local awareness. When a homeowner has seen your name on a leaflet, on your van and on a garden sign down the road, they trust you before they have even picked up the phone. That top of mind awareness is hard to recreate online.

Leaflets also let you choose exactly where you appear. You can target the streets around your yard, the estates where you already have customers, or a new area you want to break into. With door to door leaflet distribution, you pick the streets and the dates, and every round is GPS tracked.

Where leaflets fall short

Leaflets have one weakness. They reach people who might need you one day. Most households that get your leaflet do not have a leaking roof or a broken boiler that week. The leaflet goes in a drawer or on the fridge, and it works when the need arises.

That is fine for building a name, but it is slow if your diary has a gap next week.

The problem with most digital lead platforms

Plenty of tradespeople have tried online lead platforms and come away frustrated. The common complaints we hear are:

  • A monthly subscription, whether the leads are any good or not.

  • The same lead sold to several tradespeople at once, which turns every job into a race to the bottom on price.

  • Leads that come from a form fill, where the homeowner never answers the phone.

  • No real say over which leads you pay for.

That is not a digital alternative to leaflets. It is just a different kind of waste.

What a proper digital lead looks like

A useful lead has already been qualified. Someone called, described the job, gave their postcode and said they are ready to book. You can see what the job is before you pay, and you only pay for the leads you want.

How xnet.tools compares

We built xnet.tools to fix the problems above. Here is how it differs from the typical lead platform:

  • Monthly subscription. Typical platforms often charge one. xnet.tools does not.

  • How leads are qualified. Typical platforms often rely on a form fill. Every xnet.tools lead comes from a live phone call.

  • Paying for leads. Typical platforms often charge whether you want a lead or not. With xnet.tools you see the job summary first and only pay to unlock the ones you want.

  • Alerts. xnet.tools sends an instant WhatsApp and email alert as soon as a lead comes in.

  • Sharing. How many tradespeople unlock a lead depends on how many want it, and you decide for yourself whether it is worth unlocking.

How it works

  • A homeowner finds your trade on Google and calls the number on the site.

  • An AI agent answers, qualifies the job and captures the details.

  • You get an instant WhatsApp and email alert with the job summary.

  • You pay a flat fee to unlock the contact details, only if you want the job.

  • You call the homeowner and win the work.

xnet.tools uses a network of ranked trade websites that already generate hundreds of enquiries a month across Sussex. It currently covers roofing, building, plastering, gutters, driveways, boilers, solar and tree surgery.

So do you need to choose?

No. Leaflets and digital leads do different jobs, and they work well together.

  • Leaflets build your reputation in the neighbourhoods you want to work in.

  • Digital leads fill your diary with homeowners who are ready to book today.

  • Your Google profile backs both up. People who see your leaflet or take your call will often look you up, so recent reviews and an up to date Google Business Profile help turn interest into bookings.

A simple way to combine them

If you want to try both, here is a straightforward plan:

  • Register your trade on xnet.tools so you start getting alerts for jobs in your area.

  • Run a leaflet drop in the streets where you most want to work, ideally around jobs you are already doing.

  • Use the same name, phone number and branding on your leaflets, van and Google profile, so people recognise you.

  • Ask every customer for a review once the job is done.

  • Keep track of where each job came from, so you know what to spend more on next time.

Common questions

Do I have to stop using leaflets?

No. Most tradespeople who get good results use both. Leaflets keep your name in front of local households, and digital leads catch the people who need you now.

Is there a sign up fee?

No. Registering on xnet.tools is free, and there is no monthly fee. You only pay when you choose to unlock a lead.

Will I be competing with lots of other trades for every job?

It depends on how many tradespeople in your trade and area want that lead. You see the job summary first, so you can decide whether it is worth unlocking.

Which areas are covered?

Brighton, Hove and the wider Sussex area.
